he is a young teenager wants manly muscles.
so besides working out with a friend,  he set up his own evolving obstacle course in the backyard and runs until he drips sweat.

also, see the darker green grass?
love it!

year of the moth

each year we get invaded by some sort of insect.

it was all of a sudden too.
in the sink.
in the frig.

Letting Your Kids Fail

Do you cringe at the thought of letting your kids fail?
As much as I fight being a helicopter mom and rescuing our kids  when they forget something or mess up, I know letting them fail is very important.

Take the other day, our son was making cookies.  He was bored and likes to bake (though he won't admit it).  I left him to himself to read and figure out the recipe.  We have baked enough together that he should know what to do.  Our daughter came in and saw what he doing and started questioning him.  He told her to back off and when she didn't I stepped in.  I told her "Let him do it on his own.  If he makes a mistake then he'll learn from it."  This is very hard for her to step back and watch.  Alas, she did and he finished the cookies.  They came out flat and not the right texture, yet edible.  Dad and I ate them up (more to make him want to try again).

Since then he has bake two other batches of cookies all on his own without problems and without big sister watching over him.  He even made cookies for a fellowship we had and was SO excited that there were none let to bring home!

So, why let your kids fail?
Kids are going to fail.  We are going to fail
Hubby and I know that we'd much rather have our kids fail at the little things (even bigger things) while at home then get out into the world and fail and not know how to handle it.  Fail and give up.  At home the kids can mess up and receive grace and instruction on how to make it right.  They are encouraged to get back up and do it again and again if needed.

Also, important is to let them see us mess up/fail and how we handle that.  But the is another post. ♥

Pool Sharks

The other night a couple of friends from church called and invited us to play pool.  Sure, let's go!
Hubby has played before and was our teacher.  Our son has too.  For C and me it was new.

There was six of us and we couldn't decide how to break up into teams.  Hubby took the lead.  It was him and I, the girls and the boys.  We would play the winner.
We could see that waiting for the winner would take some time so we played on the table we already paid for.  It was fun.  Hubby won both times.  I don't know if I "get it".  But it was a nice change of pace.

Oh, What a Reunion

Yesterday we got the text we were all not looking forward to...our friend passed away.  Went into the arms of Jesus.  It was a whirlwind of ups and downs the last few days.  How do you tell your kids,  your son, whom Jeanne called Jare-bear, as she did with many other kids in the church, that she is gone?  Honestly.

Jeanne was one of those ladies that when she told you something you know she meant every word she said.  She was one of those who served behind the scenes, letting others have the limelight.  She had a big heart.   Jeanne was a single mom, who raised a fine man.  Her son is a close friend of my husbands and I love her DIL very much.  My heart aches for them.  God id good and I believe her son will come out of this with the victory even stronger than before.

Going to church this morning will be different, sober.  I have felt the presence, the grace, the peace of God before in times like these and I believe it will fall once again.

While there is a lump in my throat and a piece of my heart gone, I can't help but think of the day when we are Heaven.  What a glorious reunion it will be.  Old friends, family, babies you never got to hold or meet.  Oh, my heart gets excited to have that day!

For me I am holding on.  Holding onto that knowledge that one day (I believe soon.)  I will be in the presence of loved ones, loved ones that hold that little missing piece of my heart.  That one day when I will stand (kneel?) in the presence of Jesus, my savior.

Indeed, indeed...it's going to be one heck of a reunion!

My life in 4 Photos...

I know it's April, but I wanted to show you a crazy March weather photo.
March is a crazy month for weather in these here parts!
Here there is a mountain in the background.
The wind was blowing so much that all of that brown is dust and dirt.
Happens more than I care for.
The next day it snowed!

Watched this little chubs a couple of times!
He is the best baby (well, pretty darn close)!

Hubby has been driving out of town every night for the past two weeks.
So, we don't see much of him
He came home one night and said he had something for me in the truck.
Then he came back in with a Starbucks bag!
Isn't there something about that bag.
He got me the new Blonde coffee (decaf)!
It is nice and smooth!  LOVE light roast and he found it in decaf!

Remember the compost story?
Well, little plants have started to sprout, mystery plants.
I can see that some of them are melons or squash.
The others?  I am starting to suspect that they are weeds.
I'm giving them one more week to prove that they are not weeds then I am yanking them!

Ability

Good morning!  What a great day it is going to be!
My latest kit, Ability,  is up and selling in the store!
This kit is a special one for me.  I wanted to focus on what we can do not what we can't do, especially designed for people/kids with disabilities.  However, there are enough goodies for everyday layouts as well.
Added bonus everything I make from Ability will go to a charity that helps disabled children.  How cool is that?  It's a win-win!
Ready for a looksey?
